What do we mean by "catering sector"?

The caterer ("traiteur") is a skilled tradesman in the food sector, whose activity is based on:

  • the production of take-away meals (cold or warm meals, unique meals, desserts,…) and the sale of these products in its own shop.
  • the organisation and provision of food at events (weddings, family gatherings, business lunches and dinners, seminars, conferences, etc) in places other than restaurants.

Caterers can have various activities and be:

  • Solely caterers
  • Butcher / caterer
  • Delicatessen / caterer
  • Fishmonger / caterer
  • Owner of a restaurant and caterer
  • Patisserie / caterer
